The history
The brain of DooBeeDooBeeDoo NY is Sohrab Saadat Ladjevardi who is an American-Iranian, born in Switzerland, and raised and educated in Germany. After finishing school in 1974 he moved to Japan and immersed himself in the Tokyo World and avant rock music scene, playing with Japanese, African, Middle Eastern and European musicians. To give them and himself the opportunity to release CD's he established a small record company in the late 90s.
Then in 2004 Sohrab realized an ongoing ambition to publish his own print magazine, calling it DooBeeDooBeeDoo NY from the Frank Sinatra song his grand mother sang to him as a child. It was distributed free in cafes and record stores throughout Japan, and devoted mainly to World and traditional music. It was the first magazine of its kind in Japan.
Around this time, he also toured with his band in Europe, America and Hong Kong, and started a regular World music festival in Tokyo called DOO BEE FES.
In the spring of 2008 Sohrab decided to move to New York - because this city is like the mouth of a big whale...it swallows down anything that she can get. And in New York there is a lot of love and support for all kinds of music. In July 2009 he started DooBeeDooBeeDoo NY as an on-line magazine with special features on New York City artists and events.
