Eli Wallace - solo piano
Eli Wallace has been cultivating this solo piano repertoire for about a year. The goal in this project is to compose music that encompasses the wide range of influences from which he draws, and thereby write music intended to be played for solo piano. As a pianist trained in classical and jazz piano, these two influences emerge side by side in this music. The compositions have elements of ornate composed material followed by free and/or structured improvisation, and many of the compositions themselves follow standard jazz form. Aspects of free jazz, post bop jazz, groove-oriented music, modern classical improvisation, 20th century classical composition (recent influences include John Cage, Edgard Varese, Olivier Messiaen, Pierre Boulez, etc.) are all present. The end result is compositions that blur the line between improvisation and notated music in an outpouring of torrid self-expression....
