Alan Broadbent "heart's Desire" at Jazz at Kitano Judy Niemack is back in New York City performing September 19th at Kitano Jazz with masterful pianist Alan Broadbent, Jay Anderson on bass and Jeanfrançois Prins on guitar. This chamber-jazz ensemble will explore colors and dynamics in an evening of songs (originals and classics) that capture and release their creative hearts. Their common background in the Lennie Tristano "school" of improvisation and love of melody creates an intriguing, heart-felt evening of music. Alan's masterful composition, "Heart's Desire" was the title track of Judy's 1990 duo CD with Kenny Barron. She and Alan performed it together for the first time last month at the Sligo International Jazz Festival in Ireland, to critical acclaim : "An interesting selection of songs, including vocal versions of tunes by Bill Evans, Tadd Dameron and Thelonious Monk, set off the purity and flexibility of her voice. Her style was polished, her timing and diction impeccable... His touch, his use of dynamics, his contrasting moods and tempos, all held the audience riveted. The remarkable thing was not only the richness of his ideas but the conciseness with which he expressed them. He said more in a few minutes than some musicians get around to in half an hour..."
